Shrink Wrap Supplies and Machines
Heat shrink wrap is a material that shrinks when heat is applied. The material retains its new shape even after it has cooled. This material can be used as a protective covering and as a method of joining two or more items together. It is used worldwide in various packaging applications.
The machines and devices commonly used for heat shrink packaging include a handheld heat guns, I-Bar sealers, L-Bar sealers, and shrink tunnels. These devices seal the products inside the shrink wrap material and supply the heat needed to shrink the material around the products. Sealers range from manual to fully automatic heat sealers.
Shrink wrap packaging materials are available in various configurations for different types of products to be sealed or bundled. The material can be composed of polyolefin, polyethylene, or PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride). The PVC material cannot come into direct contact with food products. Instead, the polyolefin material must be used. Polyolefin shrink film costs more, but is all around a superior material.
Centerfold heat shrink wrap rolls are the most common type of rolls on the market today. The film is folded in half length ways and then placed on a roll. A ten inch centerfold roll is actually twenty inches when unfolded. Below is a brief explanation of how to use a centerfold shrink wrap roll.
- First, unwind the centerfold roll enough to fit the product onto the film.
- Next, the product is inserted into the center crease.
- Then, a sealer is used to seal the product.
- The last step is removal of excess material.
Heat shrink wrap bags only require the open end to be sealed after the product has been inserted. Flat bags are used to protect products such as books, magazines, CDs, and DVDs. Domed bags are used to protect larger bulky products such as gift baskets and flower baskets.
Heat shrink tubing is used to protect or bundle round products of differing lengths. Example products are candles and multiple electrical wires.
Our shrink wrap machines and supplies available include I-Bar sealers, L-Bar sealers, hand impulse sealers, and handheld heat guns. Shrink packaging systems are also available.
An I-Bar sealer can be used on shrink bags, shrink tubing, or centerfold shrink wrap. The I-Bar sealer has one bar to seal the open end of the shrink material and cut the excess in one motion. Portable I-Bar sealers allow the sealing bar to be moved to the products instead of moving the products to the sealer. This offers more efficient sealing.
L-Bar sealers can be used on any type of shrink film as well. The three sealing bars are ideal for use with centerfold shrink film. All L-Bar sealers available online are manually operated. Call us at 1-800-441-5090 for details on our fully automatic machines.
Hand impulse sealers can seal up to 6-10 items per minute. The flat wire sealers do not seal and cut in one motion. The round wire sealers are able to seal and cut in one motion. This helps with efficiency and ease of use.
After a product has been sealed and the excess film has been removed, the material must be heated to shrink tightly around the product. This heating can be provided from either a heat tunnel or a handheld heat gun. Note: An ordinary hairdryer cannot provide sufficient heat.
Shrink wrap heat guns are meant for low output operations. They are available with either a two-speed temperature control or a variable temperature control. A heat tunnel eliminates the need for the handheld heat guns. It can be part of a larger fully automatic or semi automatic shrink wrap system.
Shrink wrap materials are used by various industries for packaging or bundling their products. These include games and sporting goods, printing and paper products, food, hardware and house wares, electronics, pharmaceuticals, and various other industries.
