What is the difference between pallet shrink plastic and heat shrink plastic?

Stretch film used to wrap pallets and unitize products is often referred to as shrink wrap. Sometimes people looking for this product reference it as pallet shrink wrap. The proper term for the product is a stretch film or stretch wrap. Most all of the stretch products on the market are made from linear low-density polyethylene. This type of polymer offers puncture resistance and allows the film to stretch and conform to products. It is an excellent option for wrapping multiple products together and unitizing a massive load of products for transportation. Visit our blog post about frequently asked stretch film questions for more detailed info about stretch wrap products.

Heat shrink plastic does shrink when the heat is applied to the film. The two most common names for this product are heat shrink wrap and heat shrink film. Unlike stretch film, heat shrink wrap is made from a variety of polymers. Common materials in heat shrink wrap include: Poly Vinyl Chloride, Polyolefin, Polyethylene, and Polypropylene. The primary aspect all shrink materials have in common is they are all made to shrink when the heat is applied. Each type offers different advantages and disadvantages.
