Many companies can help to reduce stretch film waste by increasing load efficiency. Several issues should be considered when attempting to increase load efficiency. This post is going to focus on pallet orientation and questions to be addressed when attempting to increase load stability while lowering stretch film costs.
There are a variety of packaging software providers that will help to increase load efficiency in primary packaging, secondary packaging, and unit load efficiency. Some of the load issues that should be addressed are:
Stacking Type (number of towers, etc)
Number of outer packages
Load height
Number of Units Per Pallet
Recommended Pattern
Dimension details of pallet pattern
Compression values for Outer packaging to reduce crushing during pallet transport
Avg. cost of each option
etc.
There are a variety of other factors these programs are capable of that can increase load efficiency in both the secondary and primary packaging. In a high volume operation, all of these packaging changes have the ability to increase stabilization and efficiency, while reducing stretch film and other packaging costs.
