Collection: Poly Tubing & Bags

Poly Tubing and Bag Information

Poly tubing and bags are used in a variety of packaging applications all around the world. Polyethylene abbreviated PE is the most common plastic in the world. Polyethylene is classified based on density. Three common polyethylene classifications are High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE), and Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE).

All of our polyethylene bags and tubing are made from Low-Density Polyethylene. LDPE is used in many products but is preferred in packaging films for several reasons. LDPE offers low cost, easy processing, and an excellent moisture barrier.

Another reason Low-Density polyethylene bags and tubing are preferred is because of low sealing temperatures. Other benefits to Low-Density bags and tubing are clarity, high elongation, and softness. The high elongation makes LDPE great for resisting punctures and tears.

Customers wrapping and protecting heavy pointed objects can get very thick bags or tubing to ensure product protection. Many customers packing knives, nails, screws, and other sharp objects can use a 6 mil bag or tubing to protect and package their products. This ensures excellent puncture resistance without sacrificing clarity.

Polyethylene tubing and bags can be closed using a variety of methods. Many businesses use staples to close bags and tubing. Another common closure method for poly bags is the use of twist ties. The most common form of closure for both poly tubing and poly bags is heat sealing the ends. Small output operations often use impulse sealers to obtain an airtight seal to protect products from moisture and other exterior elements.

Poly Tubing - We offer poly tubing rolls in thicknesses from 1.5 mil to 6 mil. Rolls widths can be found from 2 inches wide up to 48 inches wide.

The best way to measure for polyethylene tubing is to take a circumference measurement of the product being wrapped. Multiply the width of the tubing times two for the tubing circumference. A 48 inch tubing will have a circumference of 96 inches.

Poly Bags - We offer lay flat poly bags and poly ziplock bags. For sealing purposes, the lay-flat poly bags will work with most flat wire sealers. The ziplock bags are easy-to-close bags that can be closed by hand. All poly bags are food safe and an excellent option for food packaging.

The best way to measure poly bags is to measure the circumference of the product being wrapped at its widest points. Then measure the length of the product. Add 15%-20% to the circumference then divide by two. This will give you the width of the bag needed. Add 15%-20% to the length as well. The additional length of the poly bags will allow room to seal and close the bag.

The price of poly tubing and bags fluctuates depending on resin pricing. We strive to keep prices as low as possible for end-users. To view current resin prices for a variety of plastics, visit theplasticsexchange.com.
